Crafts tour. Glass and ceramics

There are few blown glass factories still operating in Spain. One of them is located very near Palma.

Here we will have the chance to learn about the various phases glass goes through: from recycling, to the ceramic kiln, or about blown glass itself, where craftsmen need excellent coordination with their partner, as temperature is such a fundamental factor in moulding and designing traditional Mallorcan elements, such as glass oil bottles.

Clay is also a precious commodity on the island. There are artisans working in areas like Pòrtol or coworking spaces like the one we will visit, where artists and artisans share a space. We will visit Vir, who will teach us the technique of turning a figure on a potter’s wheel. And once you’ve heard the explanation, you can try if you dare, and experience first hand the difficulty of this ancient art.
